At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

There has been some fighting. Deals have been attempted. There was a proposal in which they said they'd give them the rest of the state if they gave them back all their enslaved people. It is rumored that the water where they are is poisoned since people have been getting sick from it.
