At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He says some generals have retired and now Hooker heads up their army. Soldiers died from fatigue/exposure, strewn across ground, won't read about it in the papers. Includes January 28, where he reassures his wife about her anxiety about hearing a battle might be near and about the possibility of this death.
