At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

"Recd. of Mr. Woodward the sum of ten pounds ten shillings on account." From 1733 to 1743 Oglethorpe was Resident Trustee, Commander-in-Chief, of Georgia. With letter of provenance. 1 black and white bust engraving of Oglethorpe and 2 full length seated right profiles of Oglethorpe.
