At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Translation of a copy of GLC02437.04842. Sends Otto documents from Schweizer & Jeanneret bankers. Otto will "see the offer of those individuals to charge themselves with the loan which Congress has opened in Holland, particularly to pay our demands." They still need the "directions of the President of the United States." Says Otto should consult Thomas Jefferson about the proposals as well. Insists they have always been deferential to Congress concerning this matter.
