At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

From the Board of Survey composed of 1st Lieutenant and Chairman Henry R. Brinkerhoff, 2nd Lieutenant E. Greaves, and William B. Todd, 2nd Lieutenant. Copy of a special order by the Board of Survey detailing the differences in clothing amounts between what was reported on the invoices and what actually was counted at the posts of Gauley and Fayetteville, West Virginia. Sent to Colonel Scammon of the 23rd Ohio and commander of the 3rd Brigade. Witnessed and signed by A.A. Hunter, Lieutenant and Acting Assistant Adjutant General.
