At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed. Titus, of Company A, Nathan Bedford Forrest's Regiment of Tennessee Cavalry, currently resides in Memphis, Tennessee, and is paroled. Printed text states that Titus is "not to be disturbed by the United States authorities so along as he observes his parole..." Dennis signs as Brigadier General of Volunteers. Signed on verso by [N.C.?] Jones, who certifies that Titus has one horse.
