At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports on resistance to British quartering, a meeting of freeholders in Boston to discuss the Stamp Act, reaction to the arrival of the stamps in New York, and a declaration in Philadelphia claiming the act was unconstitutional (p. 2-3). Also contains other news from around the colonies and Europe and various advertisements. Printed with black borders, the last issue before final implementation of the Stamp Act required the newspaper to have the tax. This issue is also the last with Franklin's name in the imprint.
