Hazen Bedel writes from the cantonment at Sackets Harbor, New York, to his brother to report on his duties on guard, and military reorganization and pay issues after the end of the War of 1812. Also discusses the suicide of an ensign named Douvra. Asks that his love be given to Bedel's wife and children and "to her Majesty the Express Maria Louisa, tell her I congratulate her on being again restored to the throne of France." Hazen had recently transferred from a post as a regimental quartermaster in the 11th Infantry and to the 6th Infantry. Hazen might be one of Moody's sibling's listed on record as "Hazel," who lived from 1785-1835.
