At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Certifies that he promises to sell John Lovett half a full share of the prizes from the first cruise of the privateer ship, the Pilgrim, Hugh Hill Commander. Confirms that Lovett paid him $457 upon delivery. Lovett was a privateer ship merchant and captain in Beverly, Massachusetts. He served as the agent for the Pilgrim's prizes.
