At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Cosigned by Adaline Russell (possibly Hancock's sister). Payable to Thomas T. Turner, Trustee (see GLC00733.01). Drawn upon Lucas Bank in St. Louis, Missouri. The amounts owed to trusts Turner was in charge of are specified by Turner on the verso, where he also signed.
