Title: [A Memorial of the State of the Province of Massachusetts Bay in New England to Queene Anne during Queen Anne's War]

A petition from the Massachusetts colonists requesting help in quelling the hostile Indians allied with the French during Queen Anne's War. Gives insight into the conflict's costs upon New England. Discusses the Indians' barbarity and the French setting prices for scalps. Describes their need of aid and the ineffectiveness of regular troops against the Indians. Asks Queen Anne to enlist the help of Mohawks and other friendly Indian nations. Comments on trade, French holdings, and the supply of masts for ships. Signed by Oliver as clerk of the House of Representatives.

Title: Missisippi of 'T Wydbefaamde goudland [Dutch] [Wonderful Land of Mississippi]

With engraved scene depicting Europeans trading gold with the Indians on the banks of the Mississippi. Publicizing settling in America. Written in Dutch. (The translation in the title here comes from the first line: "Dit 's 't wond're Missisippi Land / Besaamd door zynen Actiehandel, ....") The Mississippi "bubble" began in 1717 with the Company of the West, whose stock was driven up by speculators expecting gold and other wealth in Louisiana. Based on the notes of M. le Maire by Guillaume del'Isle. The first detailed map of the Gulf coast region and the Mississippi, and the first printed map to show Texas. With an insert of Mobile Bay. This map was also the first to show the land routes of earlier explorers: Desoto in 1539 and 1540 and his successor Moscoso in 1542, Cavelier in 1687, Tonty in 1702 and the recent routes of Denis in 1713 and 1716. The map's political implications outraged the English by laying claim to Carolina. Mapping of America 43.
