States that "at present all vacancies are filled by the States..." and says it is unlikely more troops will be raised unless an Indian war breaks out. Noted as written at West Point, New York and addressed to the commanding officer at Newburgh, New York. Third part is a note of receipt, signed with a mark by [Jane Clift] at Newburgh.

Writes, "I need not observe to you Sir that, when the draft is paid, upon Mr. Lovell, it will not reimburse me, for the expenses I have been at, in the solicitation."

Relates that when he came into office, the stores were under the charge of Mr. [John] Stagg in Providence. Has always intended to move them to Springfield but the "want of money has hitherto prevented - I supposed having never heard the contrary that he was faithful and trust worthy. If otherwise I beg you would inform me in confidence and I will request Colonel [likely Jeremiah] Olney or some other person, to take charge of them."

Walley has been giving Langdon money to support his wife (Walley's daughter) and nine children, but "as he is entirely Idle & not earning one Copper, I could sincerely wish he might get into some kind of business, whereby he might be earning something towards the Support of his Family." Hopes to be able to visit them in Plymouth the next time he is in the area. A letter to the citizens of Waldoborough, Maine regarding supplying the citizens with written warrantee deeds. A portion of another letter is pasted on the last page of the letter.
