Asks Knox to protect two ladies, "the two Mrs. Wallaces," whose husbands are among those leaving prior to the evacuation, though they chose to stay: "Those ladies mean to remain in their houses in New York, and must on this occasion feel themselves unprotected, and perhaps may be exposed to insults from the vulgar." Also asks Lewis to deliver a copy of a paper containing Parker's signature in regards to his [Parker's] conduct on a particular occasion. Says Mr. [Thomas] Randall, who is Samuel Shaw's partner, is wishing to have the matter closed as soon as possible.

Had been waiting for answers to questions respecting their business, specifically about whether bonds due to the mandamus counselors were confiscated with their other property, and therefore whether Taylor was solvent. The Courts decided finally that the bonds had been confiscated. It appears that Taylor is insolvent and has taken the bonds; his lands had been mortgaged to Mr. [Thomas] Flucker. Writes that she has heard Knox is afflicted with a "rheumatic complaint," and declares that Mr. Lawrance (her relationship with him is unclear) was in the same situation. Visited him in Albany, and found him unable to move his limbs. Was able to cure him in five days, and would like to send Knox her remedy to help him recover as well. Declares that Knox must first have faith, and then she will send her remedy.

Written from "Morris Town," which may be located in several states, including New Jersey. Declares that George Shelley and Michael Conner are two soldiers who served with the Maryland troops during the war, and would like to receive compensation such as clothes and bounty land. They are unsure how to proceed with their claim, so Lewis has enclosed one of their letters to Stagg, because he knows "of no friend that is more capable of giving information concerning [the claims] than yourself."
