Fragments of two messages to the House of Representatives of the United States. The first concerns an "act to authorize payment for property lost, captured, or destroyed by the enemy while in the military service of the U. S. & for other purposes ... " Date of 21 December 1816, written in pencil in an unknown hand at a later time. Second page is a message to the Senate and the House of Representatives about his decision to sign the Tariff Act of 1816 which protected American industries from British competition.

Alerts citizens to British impressment, American prisoners in France, "Algerine Piracy and Barbarity," and the relocation of American families to Canada, and blames it all on the Embargo Act of 1807. Urges "a hearty vote for the ANTI-EMBARGO and FEDERAL REPUBLICAN TICKET" in the election of 1808.

Copy of multiple letters. Appears to be correspondences between Henry Knox, Joseph Copeland, and Moses Copeland regarding Knox's Eastern lands. Knox complains about people cutting his timber on the Warren lands and requests Joseph Copeland's assistance. Asks Joseph Copeland to find evidence and prosecute the trespassers. A note from one of the Copeland's agreeing to Knox's request is also included. Knox also discusses a deed that is part of the Waldo patent lands. A table with a list of names and acres owned is also provided. A portion of the letter is a duplicate of GLC02437.07499.

Introduces Knox to Joel Rich who is a settler residing on Knox's land. Describes Rich's situation saying that the gentleman went into the woods with his family and has one son who is partly blind. Also notes most of the family had the fever when they visited them. Discusses an upcoming court date regarding the settler's petition. Warns Knox of a gentleman who plans on submitting his petition during the last part of the session in hopes the court will have to extend its session out. Says the gentleman is trying to turn people against Copeland by telling them he influenced Knox's selling price of land. Also lists six petitioners who reside on Knox's land and who fought on the British side during the [Revolutionary] War.

The letter is signed by Andrew Craigie and his wife, Elizabeth Craigie. Alice Pollard signed as a witness and Aaron Hill signed as a witness and Justice of Peace. Craigie vouches that he received $10 from Henry Knox and releases all rights and "quit claimed" a tract of land (11,520 acres) located next to Henry and Lucy Knox's land (likely the Waldo patent lands). A very detailed description of the location and boundaries of the land is provided. Thomas Cobb noted at the bottom of the second page that the document was received and recorded. "30 March 1802" is noted on the docket.

Title continues: "or, the British surrendering their arms to General Washington after their defeat at York-Town, in Virginia, in the month of October, 1781." States that John Francis Renault is the creator of the work. Contains a description of the picture, noting that each subscriber pays twelve dollars for an engraving of Renault's work. Attests to Renault's patent of the picture. Printed at the Emerald Press. Docketed by Knox, who notes he paid five dollars and will pay the remainder "when finished."

Also warns that a deceitful "Rank Jacobin" (no name provided) may be trying to obtain the same position in a Federalist guise, and urges that the governor does not nominate him.

A land deed between Pelatiah Freeman and Isaac Jones Woodworth. Freeman acknowledges he received $180 from Woodworth and quit claims 50 acres of land in Northport, Maine to Woodworth. Document also states Freeman had purchased portion of the land from Henry Knox. Thomas Cobb noted on the second page that the document was entered with the Records for Deeds on 1 October 1801.

Countersigned by George Richards Minot and John Heard as witnesses. Includes a 29 September 1801 note written by Minot, Justice of the Peace in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, attesting that Winthrop's statement was a "free act & deed." Judgment was granted in Winthrop's favor to obtain money owed to him by Knox, Jackson, and Lincoln. Winthrop will accept payment in the form of land. Lucy Knox and Mary Lincoln have relinquished their right of dower.
