A plan and account of the battle of Horseshoe Bend, the last battle of the Creek War, after which the Creek leader Red Eagle surrendered to Jackson and signed a treaty abandoning their lands in Southern Georgia and Alabama. President Jefferson, writing shortly after his last Christmas in the White House, acknowledges receipt of the gift of some botanical speciments and drawings from the pen of Miss Crownenshield. Bentley (1759-1819) was a Unitarian Minister in Salem, Mass. and liberal Jeffersonian. Jefferson refers in the letter to members of the celebrated Crownenshield family of Salem. Jefferson's friend and Secretary of Navy, Jacob Crownenshield had died earlier in the year.
