Blair was Chaplain of the Virginia House of Delegates and the sermons are about the death of Washington; criticism of the writings of Thomas Paine; and various religious topics. With numeric code penciled on the first four blank endpapers, similar to the diplomatic secret code (cypher) used to encode and decode letters. Expresses gratitude that the treaty he and Isaac Shelby brokered with the Chickasaws met with then Secretary of War Calhoun's approval. In the treaty, the Chickasaw relinquished their claims to land east of the Mississippi River and north of the Mississippi state line and were given a $20,000, fifteen-year annuity.
