Discusses plans for Lucy and "her lovely flock" to travel to New York, where he will hopefully be able to meet them. Expresses some anxiety about his son.

Makes plans to meet up with her and the children in New York City and writes that "I shall be desirous of staying there two days and you will require that time to rest yourself and your little flock." Notes he will leave it to Lucy's discretion of whether she brings their son, Henry Jackson Knox, along, but insists she brings their daughter Julia with her. Asks that she has Henry Jackson accompany her and the children on their journey for safety reasons.

References Lucy's letter of 6 November. Believes Henry Jackson Knox will leave New York for Boston tomorrow. After he leaves, believes Lucy will return to Philadelphia. Wants her to be happy in New York because "life is so generally overshadowed with some gloom, that there is a sort of religion in enjoying the blessings of the moment." Says going into the city before 1 December is not prudent, although the yellow fever is "nearly at an end and I belive no instances of any fresh infection for 6 or 7 days past." Expresses his displeasure about college and requests his father not to force him to attend. Discusses becoming a merchant and believes he only needs to know mathematics and arithmetic. Writes the only thing needed to become a merchant is "to understand Mathematick's [sic] & Arithmetic perfectly, which can be obtained without going College, the place of all evils." Explains he borrowed money from Mr. Hossman because he did not have enough money to travel from New York, New York to Boston, Massachusetts. Comments he looks forward to seeing him and the rest of the family in May.

Has since had troubles in business and left his wife and daughter behind in Ireland to make another fortune in Jamaica. Arrived on the island in December 1791 with letters of recommendation from Dublin and landed a clerks position with a salary of 160 pounds per annum.
