Augustus did not send Asa, an enslaved person, to Miller, as he did not want Miller to be "better off in attendants than the other soldiers." Rather, he sold him to Dr. Colb, along with Asa's wife and Martha. Augustus gives Miller a word of advice: "The humble shall be exalted-don't think of yourself more highly than you ought to think." Speech given by Rep. Augustus Wright in the House of Representatives on the arrest of William Walker in Central America. Walker was an American Citizen who expatriated himself to Nicaragua. He was later captured by the navy without legal authorization. Wright firmly opposed such action.

Speech given by Rep. Augustus Wright in the House of Representatives on the 'distribution of the public lands.' According to the speech, the government held about a billion acres of land at the time. Wright believed that the best candidates for the acquisition of the land were individual farmers who would settle and work the land themselves, rather than corporations or prospectors.

He urges Miller to make sure that he will be better qualified than other officers, for even if some were of lower rank, they could still be promoted over his head. To this end, he suggests that Miller take to his books, and study military tactics. On the reverse of the letter, Augustus notes: "Alie had as well go to study too, if he ever expects to be anything but a private." Written in the Georgia State House of Representatives.
