Writing to his publishers, Webster acknowledges their letter that told him that 500 grammars had been shipped. He wants 4,000 copies of his spelling book that he can sell in Philadelphia and would like them to print 10,000 more copies for spring sales. Recommends they add a table of contents for the sections of the spelling book.

Webster responds to charges that he is against using the Bible in the classroom and stresses that he has endeavored to remove all objections to studying the Scripture in school. He believes that correcting the language is one way to remove such objections.

Webster, book writer and editor of the New York Federalist newspaper "The Commercial Advertiser," writes to Childs, a New York publisher and friend, in London. He asks Childs to place an order for type with Caslon's foundry, perhaps for his newspaper. He requests Childs to get unsold copies of his books from a noted London bookseller, Charles Dilly. Webster is possibly referring to his works "Dissertations on the English Language," "Political Essays on the Nature and Operation of Money, Public Finances and Other Subjects," or a series of pamphlets on free trade and finance, all of which sold…

Webster mentions books he has received from Messrs. Bull & Co., and so no longer requires from Silliman. Asks Silliman to look for other specific books. Webster also mentions the majority by which Jonathan Trumbull had won the recent Connecticut gubernatorial election. Addressed to Silliman in England. Address leaf contains the note that this is a duplicate letter sent by the ship Polly. These books helped Webster in compiling his 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language. Two black and white bust engravings of Webster included.
