At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Includes an advertisement for "Our American Cousin" at Ford's New Theatre and an article on the decoration of Washington D.C. in celebration of General Lee's surrender and the end of the Civil War. Half of the second sheet has been cut vertically and the remainder of the sheet folded. Dimensions for the second sheet (third and fourth page): 55.3 x 16.4 cm.
