Demands one hundred men on the next day to load railway cars. The men must arrive by 8 a.m., have their own officers with them, and bring their own dinners. Year not given, but both men are referred to as Brigadier Generals. In March of 1861 neither Trimble nor Early were in the army. In March 1862 both held the rank of Brigadier General. And by March 1863 both had been promoted to the rank of Major General, meaning the letter must have been written in 1862.

Isaac Ridgeway Trimble, a Confederate prisoner of war held in Boston, writes a poetic letter to his wife, Octavia, about captivity and his longing for home. "You may think I am sincere if you reflect a moment that I am not free like you 'to wander at will among the woods, & hold sweet communion with nature's loveliness.' Trimble, colonel of engineers in Virginia's forces (Confederate), discusses the delivery of arms and ammunition to George Proctor Kane, Marshal of Police in Baltimore, Maryland. Authorizes H. F. Alberte and Company to make the delivery. Claims he delivers the arms to Kane for safe-keeping "to deposit with the city, properly packed up- with Inventory of the same- to be taken to the City, if [the?] state determine to do so." Docketed in pencil. Contains two pieces of mounting tape.
