The first ad is for an enslaved man named Tom who escaped from the publisher of the newspaper E.S. Thomas. Tom is described as five feet seven inches, with a mother named Mary West who lives in Petersburg. He formerly belonged to Mr. Dickson the editor of the Petersburg intelligencer.
