Rallies the men to stay strong as there is still more work to be done.

Pro-secession broadside issued by Confederate General Richard Taylor, F.H. Hatch, R.A. Hunter, and Emile Lasere, as the Committee on the part of the Louisiana Delegation at Charleston and Baltimore. Discusses preserving the sovereignty of Louisiana, the Democratic candidates for the 1860 election, the state of politics in Louisiana, and the importance of protecting the institution of slavery. Published by order of the Democratic State Committee. Accompanied by collateral envelope "F. H. Hutch to R. Taylor Esq, St. Charles, New Orleans Augt 29, 1860."

The letter discusses the stay of execution of a soldier. Writes that he has applied to Confederate General Kirby Smith to send an engineer to assist with building defensive works on the rivers. Mentions the affair of Brigadier General Jean J. A. A. Mouton. Comments on rations and the hunger of the soldiers. Speaks of preparing troops for the Red River campaign and comments on a group of young Texas soldiers who had fallen into disfavor.

Reports that if Mobile, Alabama is to be successfully defended, one officer, either naval or military, must have command of all the defenses. Mentions vessels and a torpedo boat in the harbor. This note is on the verso of a secretarial letter in the name of Major General Dabney H. Maury, dated 15 December 1864 from Mobile, to Lieutenant Colonel W. M. Levy in Meridian, Mississippi. Maury's letter informs that the torpedo boat has not yet gone out to attack the enemy and that he has applied repeatedly to Commodore Ebenezer Farrand to have an officer from the navy take command of the boat.…

The orders were issued from the headquarters of the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and Eastern Louisiana.

Letter written in the hand of Taylor's adjutant, Stanhope Posey. He requests a meeting with Union General Edward S. Canby at Citronelle, Alabama to discuss the terms of surrender. He states he has heard of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's surrender under the same terms as Robert E. Lee's surrender and wants to prevent further unnecessary bloodshed. He requests some additions be made to the surrender terms presented by Canby in an earlier memorandum. These concern additional troops that should be included in the surrender and the transportation of the soldiers after the surrender.…

Working draft, prepared by a secretary. Relays that the surrender of all other armies east of the Mississippi River leave him no choice but to surrender also, and he orders Maurey to explain the facts to his troops. Details the surrender terms. Drafted by adjutant with Taylor's corrections. The docket on p. 5, reads, "To Major Genl Maury -- What will probably be the terms of & what troops should do in the event of voluntary surrender, Recounts evils that would follow an unconditional surrender."
