Title: to Henry Knox

Written from "Redoubt No. 3." Per Knox's orders and those of General Benjamin Lincoln, Secretary at War, he has visited the foundries of John Jacob Faesch at Mount Hope and Gabril [Gabriel?] Ogden at Pompton, both in New Jersey, and inspected the shot and shells they were commissioned to cast for the Army. Provides the number and weight of each type of shell or shot at each foundry, and declared they "stood proof and fit for service." Has sent a certificate to this effect to the Secretary at War and to the Ordnance Office. Also, per an order from Lincoln, has "collected the public stores…

Title: to Henry Knox

Asks that Knox provide him with a horse or approve of him obtaining one. Lost his horse "before York" (possibly meaning in battle), and cannot afford another. Wants to borrow a horse in order to travel to Boston: "As I have no other way of getting to Boston to see and provide for my family, & as we are disapointed in our expectations of receiving regular payments, they require my presence to point out some mode for their future support while I am in the service of my country." Promises to return the horse in good working order.

Title: List of the stores deposited at Mount Hope and Hibernia

Unsigned, but authorship inferred from docket. List of shot and shells at Hibernia and Mount Hope. At the bottom of the first page, and on verso, is a note in a different hand (possibly Henry Knox's) disclosing the shells are stored in a locked area with Mr. [John Jacob] Faesch in possession of the key.
