Steedman, a hero of Chickamauga, describes the battle, which he claims as a Union victory. The Union forces suffered heavy losses and were forced to retreat, but Steedman nonetheless claims a "brilliant victory" for the Union, considering the circumstances. Also says the soldiers have great confidence in General Rosecrans, their commander. The name of Gordon Granger, a Union Major General and one of the heroes of the battle, is written on the docket, perhaps a signature.
