At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Delivered on 23 and 24 February before the Committee of the House of Representatives of Massachusetts. Published by Isaac Knapp in Boston. Protests the Gag rule passed by Congress which stated that slavery in the District of Columbia could not be discussed in the House of Representatives.
