Smith, Albert, 1763-1823
Autograph letter signed
Title: to Aaron Hobart
Discusses a legal case against him. Mentions that there has been "unfair impression & representation" cast upon him and thus, asks Hobart for several favors, such as to have a conference with K. Whitman, to have permission to visit his family, to limit the jail time if convicted. Smith had been replaced as a "collector," probably of taxes. He was earlier accused of stealing $20,000 in public funds (see GLC06313.034).
