General Sibley writes to Major General Pope to report on his arrival at Camp Hayes and his preparations for a fight with the Eastern Sioux. THe Sioux were encamped at Devil's Lake and led by Little Crow. Describes the desolate country and preparations being made. Praises the soldiers under his command. Noted as "Personal." Written from Camp Hayes, west of Cheyenne River, on stationary of the "Head-Quarters, District of Minnesota, Department of the Northwest."
