Title: [Pay order for selectmen of Preston, Connecticut]

Financial document signed by Seymour as a member of the Pay Table Committee in Connecticut. The committee was responsible for the finances of Connecticut during the Revolution. To Connecticut Treasurer John Lawrence. Document says to pay the Selectmen of Preston, Connecticut 10 pounds, 6 shillings for three guns and supplies for Captain Jewitt's company. On verso is a document signed by William Belcher that he received the money. Another document signed on verso, signed by Elijah Pitkin, says the payment was audited on 1 September 1777.

Promissory to to Elias Carrington for twelve schillings and three pence for caring for a sick soldier while on furlough. Also signed by John Lawrence as Treasurer. Verso signed by Samuel Peck, stating he recieved the money.

Writes in a jubilant tone about American victory over General John Burgoyne's army at Saratoga. Says the British and Hessian troops surrendered as prisoners of war. Claims Burgoyne's previous taunts against the Americans were "so great that he will live but a little time, to hear his proclamations & manifestos retorted upon him." Receipt requesting Lawrence to pay Captain Eliphalet Bulkley, paymaster of a company, 50 pounds charged to the Colony of Connecticut. Seymour asks if it is possible for Master Hany to visit during May or June. Indicates that it is especially important because of the losses they have experienced in Groton, Connecticut since he has been gone. Explains that because of these losses, he cannot take on the expense of Hany's trip but hopes Sands can arrange something. He gives his love to Mrs. Sands and friends. On September 6, 1781, British forces, commanded by Benedict Arnold, captured Fort Griswold in Groton and massacred 88 of the 165 defenders stationed there.

Thomas Seymour, the mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, writes to Knox about his late father-in-law Thomas Flucker's estate. Seymour writes that his own late father was the attorney of Thomas Flucker. Explains that he is having trouble collecting the sums owed to Thomas Flucker by the Deputy Sheriff. Says the sheriff made arrangements with Flucker prior to the war but now contends that he is not accountable for some of the money and does not owe interest on it. Thomas Seymour signs on behalf of the Colony of Connecticut. Countersigned by William Douglas. Seymour and Douglas confirm that the Connecticut Colony Committee, by order of Governor Jonathan Trumbull, required that an express was sent to Hartford to carry unspecified pay rolls to General Schuyler (possibly Philip Schuyler).
