Discusses agents, shares, and other Ohio Company business. One resolve notes, "That the Directors be requested to pay as early attention as possible to the education of youth, and the promotion of public worship, among the first settlers."

Title: Extract from the diary of W. S.

The diarist gives news of a Chippewa or Ottawa Indian attack on General [Josiah] Harmar's regiment, which was "stationed up the Muskingum River." Both sides suffered casualties. Writes, "This most flagitious insult seems to have been conducted with uncommon spirit, and a great degree of temerity-" Relates that the Indians raided stores that were intended for a treaty. Reports that some of the Delaware Indians "arrived on the day of this transaction and seem highly incensed at the insult." Adds that Northwest Territory Governor Arthur St. Clair has ordered the transfer of all provisions…

Contains sections 3, 4, and 5, each referring to inventories of trunks or boxes. No. 3 is a book list indicating the number of copies of "More's France, Domestic Memoirs, Roman's Floridas, Stewarts political Economy, Franklin's polil Works... Principles of Taxation, Anderson's Institute's, Mirabeau's Portrait," and others. No. 4 notes uncataloged books and swords. Written from "Cox's Fort Ohio River." Marked "copy." Discusses the process of surveying land around the Ohio River. Mentions that some surveyors have said there is imminent danger in conducting the survey beyond the 4th range. He has adopted no such sentiments and is willing to proceed immediately and will do as much as the weather will permit. Does think it makes sense to enlarge the group of soldiers going with him. Notes that it is not appealing to be in the woods that late in the season but feels it is his duty to proceed, and will continue according to Hutchins's recommendations.…
