Informs Blair that he has praised both him and his newspaper in a letter to Congressman Hiester of Pennsylvania, and has endorsed Blair for role of printer for congress. Has also enclosed a few paragraphs on nullification for Blair to publish, which are not in the letter. Blair would lose the vote to be public printer (see GLC03209.19).

Title: to Mr. Beck

Written by one of Rush's secretaries. Rush thanks Beck for the copy of the sermon, "On the Errors of Ultraism in Morals and Religion," Beck sent to him through Mr. Williams. The sermon was preached at Newport the previous summer. He briefly praises the sermon. The bottom half of the page has a newspaper clipping glued to it that has no apparent connection to the content of the letter.

Written by Rush as acting Secretary of State to Gales as a co-editor of the Washington National Intelligencer newspaper. Mentions an enclosed paper (not included) that contains an anecdote of President James Monroe. Says he knows it is correct, but has never seen it written like this before. Says Gales might want to include it in his newspaper. The incident Rush is referring to is unknown.
