Title: General orders no. 151

Celebrating the Union victory at Corinth and explaining "the magnitude of the stake" involved there. "The possession of West Tennessee, and perhaps even the fate of operations in Kentucky," had depended on this victory. Says his army had been outnumbered two to one, lists dead and wounded on both sides, and thanks his men. The Battle of Corinth was not as decisive a victory as Rosecrans claims, and the Union was badly outfought on the first day. However, they rallied and were able to prevent the Confederates from achieving any strategic objectives, and did force them to retreat.

General Rosecrans transmits a telegraph to Banks, commander the Department of the Shenandoah. Discussing military matters, mentions Generals John Charles Frémont, Irvin McDowell, John Joseph Abercrombie, and George McClellan, and Edwin McMasters Stanton, Secretary of War: "...possibly Genl Fremonts apprehensions of losing his promised troops induced the Secretary of War to let things go. Nothing is done, except McDowell has Fredericksburgh, People capitulated- Bridge was burned- on information of Abercrombies movements. A pencil note on verso suggests that this document was intended for Colonel John Wilder. Rosecrans, Commander of the Army of the Cumberland, writes after the Tullahoma Campaign.
