Discusses the Spanish threat and the disastrous northern campaign in the War of 1812. Also comments on generals James Wilkinson and Wade Hampton in the aftermath of their failed attempt to attack Montreal. Notes that congress has approved an export embargo (passed 9 December 1813) and speculates on its potential effects. Robertson was a Louisiana congressman. Skipwith was the governor of the province of West Florida.
