Check written by Putnam, a Revolutionary War general and founder of a colony in Ohio. He began the colony in Adelphia, Ohio, which later became Marietta, Ohio. He moved to the Ohio country in 1788 as the Superintendent of the Ohio Company. This 139 dollar check was written by Putnam as President of the Bank of Marietta. It says to pay "Messrs. Skinner & Buckingham or order one hundred thirty nine dollars, value received of them, and place the same to account of." " Informs that General Henry Jackson told him Knox wanted to find someone to reside at St. Georges, Maine and take care of his business there but Putnam cannot recommend anyone.

Pertains to the Newburgh Petition and Conspiracy. General Putnam writes an open letter "to the Officers in the Army" expressing reservations about officers' plan to obtain back pay and other concessions from Congress. Urges them not to threaten or wage "War against the community" or Congress.
