Pettit, acting as Assistant Quarter Master General, responds to the request of Colonel Clement Biddle, former Commissioner General of Forage, for the profits of his office since 2 March 1778, when General Nathanael Greene became Quarter Master General. Provides a detailed calculation of Biddle profits from commissions. Provides an example of the form and acceptability of war-profiteering during the American Revolution.
