Nanfan writes to Livingston that he had received a packet from the Earl of Bellomont, which he forwarded to Albany to Livingston and the rest of the Indian Affairs Commissioners. Also, Nanfan writes of the arrival of New Jersey Governer Andrew Hamilton in New York.

Title: to Robert Livingston re: congratulations on return from Indian Mission

Nanfan welcomes Livingston's return to Albany, after having been on a mission to the Onondaga tribe in an effort to maintain peaceful relations between the tribe and the colony. Nanfan then further writes that Governor Nicholson, while aboard the frigate 'Shoram Prize,' captured a pirate and "rescued a great many good vessels he had taken," releasing three English prisoners taken by the Pirate. Title: to Robert Livingston re: Parliamentary hearing on Capt. Kidd's Commission

Nanfan writes to forward news of the Parliamentary hearings discussing the Commission of Captain Kidd. According to Nanfan, who includes a transcribed copy of the minutes of the Parliamentary Committee detailed to investigate this Commission, the Earl of Bellomont was charged and testified in the case. Bellomont, in Nanfan's words, "was cleared by a very great majority consequently with a great deal of honnour." The issue of Major John Schuyler's military excursion to Canada was raised, with Nanfan reminding Livingston of the illegality of "transportation of horses and mares to Cannada…

Nanfan sends his condolences on the loss of Livingston's daughter, and requests news on the failed Commission of Mr. Weaver and the possibility of receiving pay from England. The letter was written by John Nanfan, Abraham de Peyster, S. Staats, Robert Walters, Thomas Weaver, and William Attwood. They inform the Lords of Trade that they have discovered and investigated a conspiracy to defame the government, led by Nicholas Bayard. P.2 contains a second letter from 21 January 1702, in which the authors encourage the Lords of Trade to make and example of Nicholas Bayard. Docketed on verso.
