Terms offered by nation Britain have "contributed more than any circumstance whatever to unite all parties in the resolution of repelling unitedly, the enemy;" burning of the White House: "It would have shocked you my dear papa to have heard how many persons rejoiced in the barbarous and wanton destruction committed at Washington...it is actually true that Admiral Cockburn placed himself in the chair of the House of Representatives and deliberately took the votes of 'to burn or not to burn.'"
