At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Thanks Spinner for a recently received fractional shield and note. Writes "I have sent to Col. Van Burkirk to get me some fractionals changed... and when they arrive will paste two on the shield, frame it, and hang it up conspicuously for a perpetual reminiscence of our experiences north and south." States that he would like to visit Florida with Spinner, but predicts that Spinner will have to wait until Congress makes a decision regarding the Treasury Department before he will be able to travel.
