At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One pamphlet printed by the Southern Regional Council in 1955 on the school segregation decision by Robert A . Leflar. The publication includes an analysis of the Supreme Court decision which diverged from the position that NAACP counsel and Solicitor General Sobeloff had requested. Also printed is the decision and implementation of the decision.
