Asks Knox to testify and deliver his opinion before the Justice regarding L'Enfant's case.

One engraving entitled "West-Point and its Fortifications in 1780" dated 1780. Depicts a landscape view of the Hudson Highlands and West Point Military Academy. In the forefront of the engraving, two men look across the Hudson River at the Military Academy. Drawn and engraved by J. Ink wash drawing of the eagle medal L'Enfant proposed for the society. In his letter to Baron von Steuben at the founding convention, he described two medals and recommended the one drawn here (see GLC04379.23). The actual medal issued resembles this drawing, but has some differences. On the real medal, the wreath extends above the head, there is an inscription along the perimeter of the emblem on the eagle's breast, and the feet holding the branches are visible. L'Enfant was responsible for designing and having cast a medal for the society while serving as their emissary to France. A…

L'Enfant, Major of the Corps of Engineers, discusses receipt of pay for his service in the Revolutionary War. He was granted a leave of absence to return to France, and requests pay for the entire time he served (there was some question as to whether or not the engineers had been officially discharged).

Letter written by Major L'Enfant to Lafayette. Probably in reference to the problems he was having with payments owed to Parisian jewelers for badges made for the Society of the Cincinnati. The eagle insignias did not sell well among American officers when L'Enfant returned to the United States in 1784.
