Serving as Commander of the Boston Navy Yard, Hull recommends Henry Knox Thatcher, son of Judge Thatcher (possibly Maine Supreme Court Judge George Thatcher) for the position of midshipman to Maine Senator Chandler. States that he has forwarded letters from Mr. Adams (possibly John Quincy Adams) and Massachusetts Governor John Brooks to the Secretary of the Navy recommending Thatcher.
