Writes to his wife about having received a letter from General Zachary Taylor regarding a possible peace with Santa Anna. Adds that Santa Anna had asked General Winfield Scott for a short armistice, even though he has been raising several thousand troops to defend Mexico City. Discusses military plans, keeping personal news to a minimum. Possibly Hopping's last letter home, as he died in Mier, Mexico on1 September 1847.
