Grant, eldest son of Ulysses S. Grant, writes to Llewellyn, a lawyer. Assures Llewelyn of the authenticity of a U.S. Grant letter (refer to GLC04907.02). Of the order, Frederick writes "In this order is directed one of the movements, which brought about the capture of Petersburg, Va, in 1865, referred to in Chapter LXIV p.p. 436-453. Written on mourning stationery. Responding to the news that Dr. Douglas intends to raise funds as compensation for his assessing during the last stage of Ulysses Grant's illness. Julia Grant has been quite upset by letters sent by Dr. Douglas. Frederick writes that the family already paid Dr. Douglas $12,000. "I do not wish to interfere in any way with Dr. Douglas' prospects, but as there have been many misstatements in the papers on this subject, I deem it proper to let you know just what he has received from mother for his attention to my father....."

He is unable to forward a letter that is among his Mother's papers in Chicago. The letter, written by Ulysses S. Grant before his death, requested that Frederick's son Ulysses S. Grant III, be admitted to West Point. It was cosigned by William T. Sherman and written "to the President, whoever he might be." President Mckinley endorsed the letter and ordered Ulysses III to be admitted to West Point.
