Garaudy asks Nancy if she received his postcard from Alaska. He mentions he bought her a gift, and has another birthday gift in mind for her. Garaudy writes that this letter will be short because he wants to rest for duty tonight and provides Nancy with his mailing address.

Garaudy also mentions the injuries and deaths of 4 Korean soldiers. He remarks that he does not live on the base but on a perimeter base, which has been termed "Happy Valley." Garaudy asks Nancy if she would like silk material or pre-made dress. Asks her not to worry as he is taking care of himself. In a postscript, he mentions the latest intelligence report of an expected mortar attack followed by a ground attack.
