Is glad that Franklin is doing well and is "so nicely situated" as reported in his last letter. Thinks that it must be "pleasant in the extreme" for him now that the war is at an end. Writes about all those that have suffered and sacrificed and are now able to finally return home. Has kept track of his military career with great anxiety. Knows that he longs to return home to his woman as she has gifts only a woman can give to him. Thinks that he will better appreciate peaceful life after having been away at war for so long.
