As Colonel [William] Duer has recently become insolvent, Flint tries to plan ways to raise the money he owes for their business arrangements, particularly regarding their land speculation project with Henry Knox. Comments on Jackson's recent purchase of townships in Maine, and Madame de Leval's proposed settlement in that area. The second letter assures Jackson that someone will depart the next morning with the necessary funds.

Reports that he would have written sooner, but William Duer has not yet "been able to engage suitable characters to enter into a speculation of those lands." States that Mr. [Andrew] Craigie hopes to take part in the land dealings and has gone to Boston to inquire about his prospects. Notes that if Craigie declines the position, they will have to find a person "of solidity enough to carry it through."
