Apprises Searle, then a commissioner to France to negotiate a loan for the State of Pennsylvania, of his upcoming journey to America. Hopes to see Searle in Passy (in Paris) the following day, where Deane indicates he will dine and take leave of Benjamin Franklin. Deane and Franklin were on a diplomatic mission in France during the American Revolution.

A bill of exchange for two hundred pounds sterling to be paid to Isaac Moses, written to "Horneca, Fitzeau and Co. Bankers of Amsterdam." Verso, signed by Moses, states the amount be paid to Samuel B. Webb.
