Cushing, former United States Representative, states that he proposes to leave soon for Hartford, Connecticut (possibly to campaign prior to the 1860 Presidential election). Cushing served as a U.S. congressman from Massachusetts (1835-1842) and as a delegate to the Democratic national convention, held in April 1860 at Charleston, South Carolina. Seymour had served as a U.S. congressman (1843-1844) and governor of Connecticut (1850-1853).
