The first newspaper printed by Union occupation troops after the fall of Alexandria. Announces the arrival of Gen. Banks's army to the city. Poetry features traditional patriotic themes, one by Henry W. Longfellow. Wallpaper has faded gold leaf floral pattern with green and purple highlights.

Confederate occupation newspaper. Article concerning Confederate generals Johnston, Pemberton, and President Davis describes them as a crew of mercenaries and parasites of the Confederate government; General Johnston is responsible for the fall of Vicksburg. "Alfred Neafie" noted in red ink on each corner. Wallpaper has blue-gray floral pattern with green and purple highlights.

This Confederate re-occupation edition was published after Alexandria had been recaptured by Confederate forces from the Federals and includes Gen. Lee's Official Report of the Battle of Gettysburg. No news; plenty of rumors. Printed on eggshell blue wallpaper with blue and red foliage pattern.
