In a letter written from Worcester Shire, England, Thomas Compson asks his brother Joseph to pay Samuel Ogden a sum of money due Ogden from a debt owed by their father. The next letter, dated 13 February 1789 and written from Booneton [Boonton], New Jersey, declares that the money should be paid to James Webber on order of Samuel Ogden. Below is a letter dated 8 April 1789 and signed by William Gibson, Notary Public, testifying to terms under which the Compson brothers owe money to the firm of Webber and Bicknell of London.
